Summer STEAM Camps Spark Curiosity
This summer, Dr. Mari Thomas collaborated with several of our schools to host two STEAM Camps. In total, we welcomed 32 campers across two camps, with six days of engaging, industry-specific programming. Attached are two photo collages that capture some of the vibrant highlights.
An overview of the daily themes and activities:

Day 1 – Breakerspace / Take-Apart Lab – Construction & Advanced Manufacturing
Partners: Allied Construction Industries, Turner Construction, Messer Construction, ToolBANK
- Stretch & flex obstacle course with Allied Construction
- Turner Construction “Tetris” overview of the industry
- Painting & assembling benches with ToolBANK
- Career connections and hands-on experiences
Day 2 – The Makings of a Successful Surgery – Healthcare
Partners: UC Area Health Education Center, UC Health, Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD)
- Suturing workshop and dissection with UC Health
- Donning/doffing PPE
- EMT vehicle walk-through and discussion with CFD
Day 3 – Technology: Friend or Foe? – Drone Technology
Partners: Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative, INTERalliance, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland
- Pitsco drone building and flying
- STEM career pathways and opportunity occupations session
- Presentation by Sam Tyler (Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland & former Romero Resurrection teacher)
To align with our mission, Mari integrated the Happy, Confident ME journal for the daily reflections (we added a R to our STEAMCamp – STREAM to incorporate faith and reflection!) and Pitsco Drones for the drone activities.
